From Alpnachstad, the world’s steepest cogwheel railway climbs to the summit, conquering gradients of up to 48% as it winds its way past forests, alpine meadows, and dramatic rock faces. On the northern side, the gondola lift and the aerial cableway link Kriens directly to Pilatus Kulm.
For an especially breathtaking ascent, the Dragon Ride aerial cableway carries guests from Fräkmüntegg (1,416 m a.s.l.) to the summit in just 3.5 minutes. With its spacious cabins, cockpit-style design, and panoramic windows, the ride feels almost like flying—while offering sweeping views over Lucerne and its lake.

From Lucerne railway station: take bus no. 1 to Kriens / Zentrum Pilatus
From Kriens: gondola via Krienseregg to Fräkmüntegg, then the Dragon Ride aerial cableway to Pilatus Kulm
From Alpnachstad (summer only): ride the world’s steepest cogwheel railway to the summit (accessible by train or boat from Lucerne)
